Above The Limit
Detective Luke McIntyre
Creeping quietly through the derelict house we cleared each room in a precise and practised manner before ascertaining that we were indeed alone and whoever had been here was long gone. The dog was going wild chasing the invisible scent around a room at the front of the house. I guessed that it had once been a lounge room, now it sat sad and empty, bare floor boards met peeling wallpaper and the once proud bay window offered almost no protection from the cold icy fingers of winter. The chilling presence of evil brushed my soul and I knew then, that without any uncertainty, this was where the killer had sat and watched. I was stood in the killers footprints.

His heart began to palpitate and his stomach fluttered as he watched a defeated Chris pull himself to his feet and steel himself for the traumatic job of informing his first born that her mother and sister were dead. He pulled his sweet child into his arms and held her as if he would never let go. Then she pulled away and spoke. Simon couldn’t hear what but he could imagine. A cold, menacing smile spread across his face as he watched the strong and proud fire fighter crumple before his vulnerable daughter. His heart jumped into his throat as he watched her looking frantically around, desperate to wake up from this petrifying nightmare. The relief never came. Instead her mouth opened into a wide scream that penetrated deep into his soul, filling him with a pleasure never before felt as her broken heart was torn from her chest. The hurt that Chris held in his eyes and face as he watched his eldest child being sucked down into a horrendous precipice of oblivion was priceless. And then she hit the deck, out cold. A true moment of perfection.

A familiar feeling of panic arose within him and he contemplated calling the police. No they would tell him it was too early to worry, that she had just experience a great trauma and was probably just acting out and that given that she had already gone missing from school today she would most likely turn up soon. He prayed that she would. If only she would just walk through the front door now. He hadn’t drunk a drop of alcohol since their argument that morning, her words had stung him but only because they were true and he knew it. He was failing his daughter in tremendous style and had been for days. Now it was time to pull it back, it was time to take control and stop being selfish. He had allowed the killer to destroy more than just his family and now it was time to fight back.
Detective Louisa Speer
My search continued in the bathroom where I again turned up nothing. As I exited the bathroom I ran into Louisa who looked as dejected as I felt.
“Nothing.” She said shaking her head, causing her hair to create liquid waves of honey around her face. Her eyes met mine and our gazes locked pulling us into an eternal silence. God what was wrong with me? Here I was at this heinous crime scene, surrounded by death and decay, and all I could think of was this woman. I wanted desperately to wrap my arms around her waist and kiss her with the passion now boiling in my blood. I wanted to feel her soft silky skin against me and I wanted to feel her hands on my. Looking into her slivery eyes I could almost feel the heat and in that moment I believed that she wanted me too.
